Great Basin National Park

Take a scenic 12 mile drive through Great Basin National Park, located just 60 miles southeast, then 5 miles west of Ely. The 77,082 acre park was established in 1986, and provides numerous hiking trails and opportunities for cave exploration. The park includes streams, lakes, alpine plants, abundant wildlife, a variety of forest types including groves of ancient bristlecone pines, and numerous limestone caverns, including beautiful Lehman Caves.
 Don't miss the 30, 60 and 90 minute tours of the underground limestone caves and the on-site gift shop!

Cave Lake State Park
If you love the great outdoors, Cave Lake State Park offers great fishing, boating, picnicking and wildlife viewing! You can even take a breathtaking 32 mile scenic drive on Success Loop. The park is home to a 32 acre reservoir which holds Nevada's state record for biggest catch - a 27 lb 5 oz German Brown Trout! During the winter months, enjoy cross country skiing, ice fishing and ice skating.



Ghost Train Excursions
The Ghost Train depot, located in East Ely, features exciting train rides powered by authentic steam or diesel railcar. Experience the rich history of western railroad culture with narrated train rides available from May to September, as well as special excursions throughout the year. The depot also offers a museum, gift shop and a glimpse of history, including No. 93's most recent Olympic experience.




White Pine Public Museum

The White Pine Public Museum is dedicated to the preservation of Ely's local history. View railroad rolling stock, minerals and rocks, examples of 19th century transportation, and the Hesselgesser doll collection dating from the 1800's.


McGill Drug Store
This piece of the White Pine Museum, just 11 miles north of Ely, features preserved equipment and supplies straight from the vaults of time. McGill Drug Store holds intact fixtures, pre-WWII appliances, and products from the 50' and 60's still on the shelves. Your entire family will love this truly American experience! And don't forget to order a chocolate soda at the unique terra-cotta tile counter.

Ward Charcoal Ovens Historical State Park

The Ward Charcoal Ovens Historical State Park lies just 18 miles southeast of Ely. Get a great view of 6 35-foot beehive shaped brick ovens built around 1876. Historic tours are offered weekly from May to September, and area picnicking is encouraged year round (weather permitted). 

Garnet Hill
Come and find your own delightful treasure in the volcanic rock! Garnet Hill is located 6 miles west of Ely on Highway 50, and hides a myriad of dark red garnets just waiting to be found! Enjoy hiking, picnicking and grilling on the grounds of Garnet Hill. Bathrooms are available, too.

White Pine Golf Course
Ready for a round of golf? White Pine Golf Course, just 2 miles north of Ely, is a regulation par 72, 6843 yard, 18-hole golf course. No tee time needed! The course features a putting green, practice range, golf shop, snack bar and cafe, tennis court, golf cart and equipment rentals.

Murals and Sculptures
See how the community of Ely has brought in culture and fine art! There are murals and sculptures located throughout Ely that represent the work of artists from all over the nation. More than 10 murals and several memorials and sculptures bring life and creativity to the streets of Ely!

Ghost Towns
There are numerous ghost towns throughout White Pine County, varying in size and repair. Visit the town of Hamilton, the former county seat and mining boom camp, or Cherry Creek, a former boom camp where people still live. Don't miss Schellbourne, a former Shoshone village site before beginning its historic career as a Pony Express station.

Comins Lake
An angler's dream! Located just 7 miles south of Ely, Comins Lake is well-known for its great boat fishing.
